Ceramic Art in Thailand

General background of Ancient Ceramics

The Thai term “khreung thuai” can be translated in English as both “pottery” and “ceramics”. The term pottery includes glazed and unglazed and high-fired and low-fired ware. The term ceramics is more inclusive than pottery. It can cover glazed tiles, brick, glass and glazed metals such as spoons. Generally, however, it has been understood to mean only unglazed pottery which has been fired with a high enough temperature to become porcelain.
